David Pastrnak recently posed for a picture with the puck that he used to score his 60th goal of the season. In the background, there was a whiteboard with “63 WINS” written in blue marker. Even though this wasn’t the biggest goal scored by the Boston Bruins, it helped them break an NHL record as they now own the single-season wins record because of their best player’s amazing performance!

On Sunday night, Pastrnak scored three goals to reach 60 points in his career, which helped lead the Bruins to their 63rd win of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers. This was so special that it broke two records set by the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings and 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Lightning.

David Pastrnak said with a smile, “It’s been really fun and I’m not going to lie. We all knew the importance of this game and it feels special to make history in one of the biggest hockey leagues!” He had just achieved his fourth four-point game this season which made it even more enjoyable for him and the team.

At the end of an exciting game, lots of Bruins fans threw their hats down to celebrate Pastrnak’s third goal! Everyone was really excited and chanted “We want the Cup!” The goalie, Jeremy Swayman, made 34 moments to help his team win – which is a special record that not many teams can make. He said the team deserves this victory.

The Bruins hockey team has been on a winning streak for six games and are only one point away from breaking the record set by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens, who have held the record for almost fifty years. But back then, if the game ended in a tie, it would count as a loss instead of an overtime win like there is today and that’s why Boston has four more wins than they would have had previously.

In the next week, the Bruins will have an important chance to win their first Stanley Cup championship since 2011 and they’ll be able to play all of their games at home. Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who are very important players for the team, were hurt along with Charlie McAvoy (their best defenceman), Taylor Hall (a forward player), Dmitry Orlov (another star player) and All-Star goalie Linus Ullmark.

The Boston Bruins managed to break their wins record even with all the players from the AHL’s Providence Bruins in their line up. David Pastrnak scored some goals and Charlie Coyle, Pavel Zacha, and Jeremy Swayman also each got a goal. Jeremy Swayman also had 34 saves and the Bruins were able to successfully stop 38 consecutive penalties. The Flyers coach John Tortorella said that the Boston Bruins are still a very good hockey team even though they have some people out of their lineup.

The Bruins did well with what Coach Jim Montgomery called their “signature move,” which is to finish games. They let in a goal from Owen Tippett at the start of the third period, but then were able to shut down the rest of it and improve their winning track record – they’re 46-1-2 when leading after two periods.

This season, something special happened: two players scored 60 goals each! The last time this happened was in 1995-96 when Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr did it. One of those players was Czech winger David Pastrnak. Before the season ended due to the pandemic, he had already played 48 games and he knew that he had what it takes to do great things throughout the season. He even said “I know what kind of player I am in this league right now. I knew I could do it. That helps with your mindset.”

The Philadelphia Flyers lost their seventh game in a row, despite Wade Allison and Joel Farabee scoring. Felix Sandstrom tried to help the team by making 29 saves but the Boston Bruins ended up winning. The Bruins are now going for a record-breaking win. On Tuesday night, the Boston Bruins will play against Washington and the Philadelphia Flyers will face Columbus.
