Thatcher Demko had a really good night playing goalie for the Vancouver Canucks during their game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He stopped 33 shots and managed to keep his team in the lead so they won 3-0. His coach Rick Tocchet said he was really strong during the game and that he looked like nothing could get past him.
The last time the Canucks and their goalie, Demko, achieved a shutout was back in December 2021 when the Canucks won against the Kings 4-0. Recently, even when there were chances for the Kings to score, Demko was fast enough to get from one side of the net to another and block them out. When asked if he remembered how long ago this happened, Demko laughed and said no. He just tries his best every night to achieve a shutout again.
Andrei Kuzmenko, Vitali Kravtsov, and J.T. Miller all scored a goal, and Akito Hirose helped them both with two assists, so the Canucks could finally win after a four-game losing streak.
Alex Stalock had 26 saves while they were playing the Blackhawks who had won at Calgary on Tuesday night. However, the Blackhawks have only won one out of the last ten games.
Chicago coach Luke Richardson said that it’s been their way of working all year to keep being positive, even if they have had some bad games. He added that usually after that happens, they find a way to score some goals in the next game.
The Canucks quickly got 2-0 ahead in the second period because Jonathan Toews was given a penalty for hooking. Then, Kravtsov added another goal to their score 3 minutes and 53 seconds into the frame by shooting a one-timer. This 23 year old player joined Vancouver at the end of February from the New York Rangers.
Kuzmenko was first to get some points on their score board, 16 minutes and 16 seconds after game started. He used his power to shoot a rocket from his position far away and managed to pass Stalock’s glove for his 38th goal of this season.
Cole McWard, a Canucks defenseman, just made his NHL debut! After two seasons with Ohio State, he signed a two-year contract with Vancouver. The Canucks have won all three matchups against the Blackhawks this season – including Thursday’s game. Their next opponents are: the Blackhawks going to Seattle on Saturday and the Canucks hosting Calgary later that day.
