David Perron of the Detroit Red Wings had a great night with two goals and an assist as they beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-0 at the game on Tuesday! Ville Husso, who was back in action after being injured for seven games, made sure to keep the Canadiens scoreless. “Before the game, I was kinda nervous,” he said, “but once I stepped onto the ice I felt really good!”
Lucas Raymond, Matt Luff, and Joe Veleno all scored goals; Jordan Oesterle and Olli Matta gave out two assists. The Detroit Red Wings (35-33-9) won their last two games on a trip to Canada in Toronto and Montreal. Coach Derek Lalonde said that they have been playing the right way, their forwards and defence are meshing well together, and they are getting great goaltending.
Cayden Primeau had a really good game and made 16 saves for Montreal this season. His coach, Martin St. Louis said that he was really impressed with their start but then all of sudden they were 2-0 down and playing catch-up. He added that the team’s plans weren’t perfect but they did have good intentions.
Referee Marc Joannette finished his career that night by watching a game. He was the referee for more than 1,500 NHL matches and 3 Stanley Cup finals.
Raymond made a surprise wrist shot from a close distance to score the first goal for Detroit after 4 minutes and 55 seconds into the first period.
Oesterle sent Perron an extended pass to create a breakaway situation, which allowed Sherbrooke player to trick Primeau, doubling Detroit’s lead.
At 7:12 of the second period, Luff used an open puck in the slot to score his 2nd goal of this season.
Detroit scored a power-play goal at the end of the second period when Veleno tipped Jake Walman’s shot from far away past his own hometown team. Later, Perron got another goal for Detroit at 7:26 in the third. After this game, Detroit will play Buffalo and Montreal will host Washington on Thursday night.
