The Buffalo Sabres won in overtime against the New York Rangers on Friday night. Jeff Skinner scored the winning goal with one and half minutes left to play. J.J. Peterka and Jordan Greenway also scored for the Sabres. They were able to get a victory even after giving up a two goal lead. Devon Levi was the goalie for this game, which was his very first NHL game ever! With their win, the Sabres are now only five points away from potentially grabbing a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs!
Kaapo Kakko and Adam Fox scored the points for New York which has recently lost two games in a row, but is still close behind New Jersey who is in second place in the Metropolitan Division. Jaroslav Halak was responsible for making 31 saves throughout the game.
In overtime, Skinner gathered the puck from Owen Power’s pass and moved between two defenders before shooting it past Halak’s goal. This goal was his 32nd this season!
Tyler Toffoli scored an important goal 3 minutes into overtime to help the Calgary Flames win their third game in a row – something they hadn’t managed since December. Troy Stecher, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Blake Coleman all made goals during the match, while Mikael Backlund and Jacob Markstrom earned assists. Finally, Jacob Markstrom saved 14 shots during the match.
Calgary only had two points missing from the playoffs even though there were five games left in the regular season.
Vancouver lost their second straight game in overtime, and they now have 3 wins and 2 ties in their last 5 games. Their goalie, Thatcher Demko, made 36 saves.
When it came to extra time, Calgary’s player Backlund passed to Toffoli who then scored with a shot which was over Demko’s head. This ended the game!
Oh and by the way, Stars beat Coyotes 5-2!
Jason Robertson from the Dallas team scored an important goal just 22 seconds before the end of the second period, helping his team to win against Arizona. His teammates Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, and Jamie Benn also scored. Jake Oettinger made 15 saves with his goalkeeping skills to contribute towards their victory. With this win, Dallas is now only one point away from first-place Minnesota and two points ahead of third-place Colorado in their division.
Robertson has scored 42 goals and made 53 assists, which means he now has more points than Mike Modano who held the record since 1993 when the team moved to Dallas. Jusso Valimaki and Connor Mackey both scored for Arizona while Karel Vejmelka stopped 26 shots, but they still lost the game. On another note, Winnipeg beat Detroit 6-2 with Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler each scoring a goal and an assist.
Dylan DeMelo and Nikolaj Ehlers each scored a goal and an assist, and Nino Niederreiter also got one into the net. Mason Appleton and Vladislav Namestnikov helped out with two assists each, while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 shots for the Jets, who won after losing their last two matches.
David Perron and Joe Veleno both added a goal 21 seconds apart in the third period to help Detroit, and Magnus Hellberg blocked 23 shots too. Unfortunately though this still wasn’t enough for the Red Wings who had been winning their last two games but now have lost six times in nine attempts.
